To enjoy a hassle-free evening out and to make the most of Sydney New Year's Eve 2022, leave your car at home and plan to get to the celebrations in Sydney CBD and North Sydney by public transport.
Customers with specific accessibility needs must plan their trip for NYE in advance. Trains will not stop at Circular Quay between 8pm and 1am. Customers with disabilities going to the Cahill Expressway event can make special arrangements for their train.

Return tickets on trains, buses and light rail will be extended, and special New Year's Eve tickets will be available for State Transit buses and light rail services.
If you are travelling with an Opal card and you are unable to tap on or tap off due to the unavailability of station gates, you should call 13 67 25 (13 OPAL) and speak to a customer representative.

Extra trains to the Sydney CBD will run from 4pm to get you to your New Year's Eve celebrations and home again. After midnight, extra trains will run until early in the morning to get you home.
Between 8pm and 1am you will not be able to get off at Circular Quay. You can walk to the Sydney Harbour foreshore from Wynyard, St. James or Martin Place.
Between 12.30am and 03.30am trains leaving Central will not stop at Domestic Airport and International Airport stations.
Return train tickets purchased on New Year's Eve are valid until 12 noon on New Year's Day.
Return train tickets to the Sydney CBD are valid for one journey to and from Central, Town Hall, Wynyard, Circular Quay, St James, Museum, Martin Place or Kings Cross. For travel to North Sydney or Milsons Point, you need a ticket to these stations.
A Station access fee applies for travel from Domestic and International Airport Stations.
Extra buses on major routes will be deployed to get you to and from the Sydney CBD and North Sydney. Temporary bus stops and diversions will be in place from 3pm in North Sydney and from 4pm in the CBD until 6am on New Year's Day.
Metrobus services will not run after 6pm on New Year's Eve, but will be back to normal on New Year's Day.
Special New Year's Eve bus ticket: $6 adult, $3 concession, and it allows unlimited travel on regular State Transit operated Sydney Buses services between 3pm New Year's Eve and 12 noon New Year's Day.

If you are travelling by ferry on New Year's Eve, allow extra time for your journey. Sydney ferries will run until the Sydney Harbour exclusion zone commences. The last service time from some wharves is as early 5.35pm, so plan your NYE schedule accordingly.
After the midnight fireworks, extra ferries will run on some lines to get you home. However, they may be delayed if the Sydney Harbour exclusion zone time is extended. Please refer to the Ferry website for timetable.
Do not buy a return ferry ticket unless you plan to catch one of the extra services leaving after the fireworks, otherwise you may get held up longer than you expect.
Light rail services will run around every 8-10 minutes on New Year's Eve. The last light rail service from the Sydney CBD to Lilyfield will leave Central at 3am on New Year's Day, and the last light rail services from the Inner West of Central will leave Lilyfield at 3.20am.
Special New Year's light rail ticket: $5 adult $3 concession allows unlimited travel between 5.30am on New Year's Eve and 5am on New Year's Day. Tickets are sold on board the light rail.
Night Ride buses will run on the morning of New Year's Day to get you home. These services will leave from alternative New Year's locations due to road closures. Please refer to Bus timetable for arrival timings.
You can use any valid return train ticket.
